End of Season

Friday, 25th September, was our last day for bowling in this memorable year – unfortunately memorable for so many things other than bowls. However Boscombe Cliff Bowls members had been offered 4 months of bowling, somewhat limited due to circumstances, on a fantastic green. Those who chose to bowl played against other clubs, played in some fun competitions and bowled in our more serious club competitions as well as rolling up amongst themselves. New members joined, new friendships were made including more competition within our own members. A new revamped bar added to the club’s achievements this year, and we start to look forward to next season where we can carry forward our bar’s new name Team Spirit!

Enjoying the last day of 2020 season

Finals Day 12.09.20

The green was in superb condition, the weather was perfect for BCBC Finals Day on Saturday.

The finals were reduced to just 5 Matches mainly because of Covid and our limited play, and also one finalist, Sue Dadson, was unable to play due to illness.

Steve Arnold beat Steve Bull in the Mens Handicap Singles, and Chris Daniels and Bob Kelly beat Roy Lock and Albert Toulouse in a very exciting Mens Pairs In the morning.

After lunch Linda Arnold beat her husband, Steve, in the novice Kerley Cup. Chris Daniels won the Mens Championship Cup for the 12th time having won it first in 1993. Jason Barrett a new member to BCBC but an experienced indoor bowls player was the valiant runner up.

President, Wendy Harvey, beat Linda Bull in the Ladies Championships, so a new name will go up on the Honours Board.

John Chesworth Cup 5.9.20

18 pairs entered the John Chesworth Aussie Pairs Competition in glorious weather. There were 3 groups and each pair had to play 6 ends against the other 5 pairs in their group, resulting in the winner in each group plus the highest scoring runner up playing in the semi finals. Lorraine and Len Shirley were beaten by Bob Kelly and Charlie Munden, and Sue Dadson and Brian Gordon were beaten by Margaret Jeanmonod and Chris Daniels, and these 2 were the eventual winners and were presented with the John Chesworth Cup by his niece, Camilla (from the Cafe).

Chris Paice Cup

A brilliantly organized afternoon of bowling where 26 bowlers played 5 games each of pairs of just 5 ends with different partners for each game against different opponents all divided into high and low handicaps. Organized brilliantly by Chris Daniels and at the end of an afternoon of some very competitive bowls the Chris Paice Cup was won by Linda Arnold and Roy Lock – well done to both of them.

Rewarding our youngest member!

In 2019 Boscombe Cliff Bowling Club (BCBC) invited a group of 8 year olds from Pokesdown Community Primary School to come to try bowls. They liked it so much that their teacher arranged for them to come every Wednesday morning during the summer term, and some also came in the school holidays. One of them, Harry Kingsley, was particularly keen and our coach, Derrick Pavey, said he was a natural bowler. During the winter Harry joined Bournemouth Indoor Bowling Club and had further coaching. Because of Covid he has only just started coming back for weekly lessons with Derrick. Derrick and the whole of BCBC have been so impressed by his play and dedication to the game that Derrick has arranged for him to be presented with a special trophy on Wednesday afternoon, 2nd September.

Wrenn Rose Bowl competition
